Ability Links

Empowering people with disability to achieve their goals

Ability Links

Ability Links NSW (ALNSW) is a key part of the NSW Government’s plan to reshape and improve the way people with disability, their families and carers are supported by placing them at the centre of decision making. ALNSW works within local communities to assist people with disability, their families and carers to be valued and active members of their community, and works with communities to facilitate the social and economic inclusion of people with disability.

The Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation is proud to have been selected as the main provider of Ability Links services for Aboriginal people within this region.

Our Objectives are to:

  • work within the local community to assist people with disability, their families and carers to be valued and active members of their community
  • work with people with disability, their families and carers to help them plan for their future, build on their strengths and skills, and develop local networks
  • work with people with disability, their families and carers to help them to do what they want with their lives – outside of the traditional disability service system
  • provide a locally based first point of contact designed to improve access to, and engagement in, local community, mainstream services and disability services, where necessary
  • work with local communities to facilitate social and economic inclusion of people with disability

Our Partnerships

As we develop and grow our Ability Links program we will be working with a wide range of partners including other Ability Linkers, community groups and whoever people with disability want to be involved with – swimming schools, music teachers, reading groups; the list goes on and on and will depend on the choices made by person with disability and their families.

Getting Started

We will be very active in getting our message out to the local community but we would love to hear from you directly. Your first step is to contact the Ability Links Team to find out how we can assist.
